The San Diego Padres kept their playoff hopes alive with a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park. The win, coupled with losses by other Wild Card contenders, puts the Padres within striking distance of a postseason spot.

San Diego was led by a strong performance from starting pitcher Blake Snell, who allowed just one run over seven innings while striking out 10. Snell, who is in the running for the NL Cy Young Award, has been a bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent season for the Padres.

Offensively, the Padres were powered by Juan Soto, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Soto's 31st homer of the season came in the third inning and provided the Padres with a lead they would not relinquish.

Manager Bob Melvin praised his team’s determination. “We know what’s at stake, and the guys are responding,” Melvin said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, but we’re still in this thing.”

For the Rockies, the loss was another in a long line of disappointments in a rebuilding season. Colorado remains at the bottom of the NL West and will likely focus on developing their young talent as they look ahead to next season.
